Marine Accident Investigation Branch

case-study-2

The Brief

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) were moving offices and required their new board room and training room to be outfitted with appropriate AV solutions for both areas.  Relocation of interactive chart table.

The challenge for this project was the MAIB need to re-use as much of their existing AV equipment as well as upgrading their existing analogue system to a digital one. The AV solution also needed to integrate an range of different inputs and outputs (PC, laptop, audio, VC, HDMI, VGA, microphone) with simple switching between two locations within each of the separate rooms. This all had to be achieved with in a program of works based around the relocation and refurbishment of the old and new premises.

The Solution

Boardroom Solution

The Digital Message solution was to reuse the existing audio system in the boardroom, but replace the existing presentation switch and control panel with a new digital system, all housed in a new double width lectern. By providing a new Epson HD projector Digital Message were able achieve the client’s desire to improve the image quality along with HDMI connectivity and online monitoring. Digital Message recommended a Kramer  HDMI & Analog Presentation Digital Scaler/Switcher paired with a Kramer 12 button + volume  control panel (the latter mounted on the top face of the lectern). These provided the simple user interface as well as processing for the variety of digital and analogue inputs. Program sound and voice reinforcement are provided by the clients existing Audica Technical amps connected to their existing wall mounted Microline speakers and ceiling mounted speakers respectively.

PC and laptop inputs were provided at both lectern (x2) and boardroom table top(x1). Due to the length of cable run and the client’s requirement for a digital solution, Digital Message used multiple Atlona HDMI over CAT5 extenders for all the inputs and outputs that the client required. This required a number of on-site meetings with networking and electrical contractors to specify cable runs, containment and termination locations.

Training Room Solution

The Promethean ActivPanel-2 was paired with a sound bar, which provided the size and quality of image and sound that the client required. KVM switching allowed for the interactivity as well as the AV to be switched between 3 input locations.

Project Delivery

Digital Message locally based representative provided advice and support during the initial specification process. Site meetings and demonstrations as well as technical product information enabled the client to make informed choices and prioritise their budget towards the most important pieces of equipment and services. The installation teams worked closely with the client’s project  manager to ensure that equipment such as the interactive chart table, speakers and so on were de-rigged, packed and stored in a safe location until the new premises were available.

“Digital Message’s hands-on approach and in-depth understanding of our requirements made for a professional  outcome that delivers the upgraded digital experience we had hoped for. Digital Message were happy to listen to our requirements and come up with solutions no matter how many times we came back with different requests or ideas. Our users are extremely pleased with the quality of the images and the ease of use of the equipment.”
